Are you so confident that you can stay for your opinion even if no one agrees?
zeuser comments on Jul 24, 2018:
"No one agrees" is my default position. Even after I got a divorce. Heh.

Is there a tactful way to let the Ex know you're dating? :|
zeuser comments on Jul 24, 2018:
With me, when we (my new dating interest and I) posted pictures of outings on facebook, the cat was out of the bag. My kids were older at that time (18 and 24), and they told my ex also. I was and still am on good terms with my ex, even though the dating relationship fizzled out. Nobody's feelings were hurt. YMMV, but if you feel like you should tell her, tell her.
Do you think there is good to reinvent yourself sometimes or to keep doing the old way?
zeuser comments on Jul 23, 2018:
One good idea a day, one thing you make sure you learn every day. You can reinvent yourself on an ongoing basis incrementally. It can work for a lot of people.
How do you people feel about prenups?
zeuser comments on Jul 23, 2018:
I doubt I'll get the chance to have one at this point of my life. If love does sneak up on me, I'd need one to protect my assets - I don't have any earned income anymore and my long term survival depends on carefully managing what I've already accumulated.
What’s the worst injury you’ve ever gotten from the gym?
zeuser comments on Jul 23, 2018:
Inflamed right rotator cuff. I've been doing stretches from the therapist for a year or so, and it's still not quite right (a phrase which some people use to describe me overall). I've stopped doing flies, and some overhead work still irritates it.

zeuser comments on Jul 21, 2018:
One thing about dating, it's expensive. It's also a time sink. I can go casual for a while, like let's go get some drinks. But I don't want another ltr, or to hear someone critique my clothes, lifestyle, hair, friends, or food choices. So I can relate, red.
Who is your favorite Batman?
zeuser comments on Jul 21, 2018:
Nobody will ever match the thrill of the original Adam West TV series, it was huge. Keaton was very good, Nicholson and Basinger were excellent support, and Christian Bale belongs in that conversation as well. But Frank Gorshin, Caesar Romero, Burgess Meredith, Julie Newmar, Eartha Kitt, Lee Merriweather, George Sanders, Vincent Price, you can't match that murderers row of villains.
Whatcha doing this weekend? Any big plans?

I also tend to stand apart. In a room with me and 10 other people, there will eventually be five conversations and me sipping my wine. This isn't to say noone gets me, several people do. zeuser comments on Jul 16, 2018:

zeuser comments on Jul 15, 2018:
The price of the American reliance on technology to research, advertise for, and actually conduct our elections is a vulnerable infrastructure easily penetrated by bad people. This is the Achilles heel of our republic. If the current cabal is able to consolidate power by continuing to attack and exploit this vulnerability, it will probably take some bloodshed to right the ship, though I really hope that it doesn't come to that. I never though I'd live to see this.
Are you the type of person who seeks revenge when you’ve been wronged by someone?
zeuser comments on Jul 15, 2018:
Actively seeking revenge means you are planning to pull something, and shit can go wrong and leave you looking guiltier than the original perp. I prefer shunning. It's a little passive-aggressive, but you can cut the toxic individual out of your life and be a better person for the decision. Now I *have* fantasized about various plots to exact retribution, but I don't ever carry them out. I don't avoid people who screwed me over, but I make sure they know that *I* know what they did, and pointedly ignore them every chance I get. It ain't much, but that's how I work it.

"Left-wing and right-wing political ideologies have themselves become secular religions, providing ...
zeuser comments on Jul 13, 2018:
You can look at the extremes on both sides and this bears out. The right wing overtly and regularly conflates political ideology with religion, even in their mainstream. I see less of that on the mainstream left, and more flexibility regarding policy issues based on facts. But the quest for ideological purity cuts both ways.

Sometimes it's your family that comes up with the most stupid shit. It hurts a lot more than hearing it from some random stranger. First, I'm suspicious of any idea applied as a generalization that covers all cases. Second, even if that's what you think, why broadcast it? What do you gain at the cost of hurting someone else? But finally, what exactly makes someone else's weight (or status, or any other characteristic) your business?

There's a wide continuum of reasons to date or not date someone. You have to balance that together with your goals. For certain considerations, I'd sit for a tarot reading. Hell, I've done them, for reasons that seemed like a good idea at the time, you know? Heh.

Complaining.
zeuser comments on Jul 9, 2018:
My daughter taught me to try to look at some positive aspect of any situation. It's not easy, and it doesn't always work, but it's energy invested into something other than complaining. People who always complain tend to blame everyone for their problems and not consider their own part in the path to resolution. People who think like that are never happy. And I do try to steer clear of them. Good on you for looking for the positive in the face of adversity. Not easy. Highly commendable.

What's the best coffee you've ever had and where did you have it?
zeuser comments on Jul 9, 2018:
I was in Austin Texas for a conference early in the century, and I was hung over as hell. I went to a little Mexican place for some huevos with some legitimate frijoles and ice cold salsa with a warm tortilla, and a cup of hot, strong coffee that made me moan with the first sip. I grind my beans (dark roast Arabica, usually) and use a French press, and that is good java, but that cup in Austin from almost twenty years ago still lives on in my memory.

zeuser comments on Jul 9, 2018:
After I was done with public elementary school, my mom decided she didn't want me to go to public junior high, so she got me into a local parish school. An Italian parish school. Here I am, 12 years old, one of the most awkward times of your life, and it's a brand new group of kids that I never laid eyes on before in my life. So there I am before school starts, looking like a real polak - all blue eyes and blond hair among all of these olive skinned kids, everyone is in their group of friends and I'm just standing around looking out of place, and a kid came over and said "Hi, my name is Louie. You're new here, right?" and he introduced me to a number of people before class started. One of the people he introduced me to turned out to be a best friend with whom I remain in contact to this day, and I still keep in touch with Louie too. It was just what I needed at that time, and not that big a deal for Louie. I try to pay that forward each time I see someone looking out of place or unsure of what to do. Good question, thanks for the memory. 8-)
