Well, my direct experience with his followers (the ones I have run into anyway, an admittedly small sample) do in fact think his cruel and bigoted administration is terrific, and something they craved for a long time. They are convinced this is the new normal. Even when the practical effects are directly and significantly harmful to them physically and financially, they stick with the new normal because for them it means their racism, xenophobia, and cruelty are the new normal as well.

Yeah, it can be irritating. I use an adblocker, and I have yet to whitelist a site. I did subscribe to the Raw Story site, I like what they are doing there and would love to see it continue so I think it's money well spent. If the adblock blocker gives an option to "continue without supporting this site", I click through that way - sometimes it works out, some sites don't have this option. I've stopped feeling guilty about small shit like this. If I can't get around it that way, I just don't read the content. The performance I see is much better this way - it was getting out of hand on a lot of sites.

Of course it could happen. A lot of things could happen. Best to see how it plays, but be prepared for the worst. Our biggest threat, IMHO, is the proliferation of propaganda among those not sophisticated enough to realize that's what it is. And it's getting harder to spot, even for those of us who are looking for it. Also, if this does happen, other outside forces will come in to fill the vacuum, and pick the winners. I am not completely pessimistic, but it doesn't look really promising right now.
