For those who will meet up with family (and friends) this holiday season, here's some advice from Bill Maher on what to do. Summary: shut up about politics
While on the topic, wish you all the best of the holiday season! Oh, you could talk about site website with family. But then again, pass the gravy!
I just had to warn K about "Phonemageddon".
This will occur when my BIL speaks to his brother Alain on the telephone - (Alain supports 45 and thankfully lives down south).
During the last family celebration you heard Bob's half of the conversation get getting more and more heated - with an entire floor separating us.
It was spectacular.
We're also going to have to suppress ourselves - and have made plans to do so.
A child who is being indoctrinated into Catholicism will be coaxed into prayer.
Right before we eat.
(Oh yes the adults have heard me on that topic once.).
Once was plenty. I gave out the abuse warning too.
I think they heard me about "Don't leave the children alone with strangers". Particularly Catholic Clergy.
They were a bit bug eyed so I'm not sure? (And I don't drink). I just had to let that out.
I blurped. But I'm okay with that.
I love my family so I always strive to maintain the peace.
I wish you a lovely holiday - whatever you choose to do.
I hope you have a great time.
And we want pics of the feast.
I watched his show and he made a really good point about core Trump supporters. If they haven't woken up by now, they won't, so don't waste your time arguing with them. He's right. It's like religious people. The more you press them, the more they dig in. If their brains are going to rewire, it's going to be self rewiring. Like Nixon supporters who hung on until the obvious couldn't be denied. Like Hitler supporters who had to face the reality of his evil at the end. Sad to say, some Hitler fans never gave it up. I suspect it'll be the same with some Trumpsters. They'll re-channel into another Trumpian autocrat. Inanycase, dialogue is now pointless with them.
Me to stepdad (who loves my mom but is a fucking Trumper): Please peel the potatoes in the morning because Mom's arthritis.
Him: I don't peel potatoes, never peeled potatoes, will never peel potatoes.
Me: Weren't you ever in the military?
Me: Bone spurs?
LOL Sorry Not Sorry.
For Christmas, one side of my family, I agree, we avoid that discussion.
The other side, we give each other "donations" in each other's name, whether it's MPR (Minnesota public radio), Doctors without borders, Heifer international, or something similar, we're all on the same page, and we can discuss it and agree. Much less stress.
