What do you fear more... the Covid-19 outbreak or its effect on our psychological, social, political and economic health? What can we do as individuals to mitigate damage?

I fear Trunk for another 4 years....please no

@Silvertongue The Dems have way better than Biden, Bernie Sanders, but they are too determined to stop him to care about winning in Nov..

@TomMcGiverin exactly

@Silvertongue Just like four years ago, we won't get to find out as the Dems won't nominate Bernie.

I am anxious about deaths, the overload on the health systems, our economy, the stress on everyone and the perhaps lasting effects of this mess.

So you would want to vote for 4 of the options. Proves my point below.

6

I work in a hospital, so I'm biased on this one, but 2nd choice is the unrest, followed by Republicans trying to ram through anything that will benefit the rich.

For me, it's an all-of-the-above situation: The death toll may not be the worst part, but it definitely sets the tone and amplifies people's anxiety and fear — if not for themselves, then for their loved ones. The need for social distancing and non-essential business limits is likely to result in job loss and short-term financial strain for small businesses and individuals, which in turn will lead to an economic downturn that further affects the stock market and employment that may very well cause a serious economic depression in the months, if not years, to come. While I don't think there will be political pet projects in significant numbers, I do think there will need to be government aid (a lot more than a one-time payout of $1,000 per person) to help mitigate the financial strain people are feeling and to provide a continued revenue stream so businesses remain viable and don't have to further lay off workers or close shop entirely to make ends meet. The financial situation is likely to get bad enough that rioting and looting will be inevitable. While we don't currently have any serious threats to civil liberties and privacy (that didn't already exist), violence can lead to public sanctions — but I'm less concerned (though not entirely unconcerned) that it will be draconian or become permanent. It's all interrelated, and it's all quite serious.

Well put.

My point below.

I fear the outbreak.. I fear for my baby girl and unborn baby boy.. I don't care much about economics

I can isolate myself. If I catch this, it's totally my fault because I live with no one and need not leave my apartment.

I worry about my daughter in Boston, who works at MGH there. She's already been put in quarantine once and she is on the front lines in triage and admissions. If this virus is allowed (and I say allowed because the WH is considering recommending "healthy" people return to work) to multiply, there is no doubt she will be exposed multiple times and eventually contract it. at 29, she is in one of the fastest growing groups that die from the disease.

I am worried about all the people on the front lines. From what I hear on the news, the hospital systems are already overwhelmed. Here in Illinois, the governor has been asking for retired health care workers to consider coming back to work. From your daughter's viewpoint, do we have enough people to get the work done?

Please thank your daughter for her service to the people.

@itsmedammit No. She fears, like we all do, that without more tests and PPE (they can't take their masks off unless they are litetally in a room alone with the door closed). They will begin to get sick. It's just a matter of time.

All of it. You can't separate any of it.

My point below.

Trump Republicans. Stupid is forever, ignorance can be cured. Trump's supporters fall into the first group unfortunately.

3

I worry about everyone's mental health because basic needs are threatened. That's not a casual load to add to everyone who might already be overburdened

What's been good to see is how many small folks are reaching out and doing what they can - in their communities, for neighbors or online... There are a lot of humanist tendencies being shown if you pay attention.

If you can donate to a food bank please do.

All the above!!!

When will posters learn that you need to allow voting for multiple option when you do these polls? Otherwise you don't get accurate results.

@Bierbasstard The system already offers the multiple vote option. I'm just saying posters should think it thru and use it when they set up the poll.

@Bierbasstard I guess the difference between you and me is that I will say what I think regardless of who I disagree with, while you, it seems, would instead kiss someone's ass because they are in a position of power. I also trust that the Admin., Andrew, is not petty enough, like maybe you are, that he would ban me for simply disagreeing with his choice on how he set up the poll. I guess we will see if he bans me for it, like you appear to wish he would do and would do yourself if you had his power. Maybe your member name is appropriate.

The only thing I fear is 4 men in a car & dust mites. I avoid humans as the most dangerous animal.

I fear all the wrong people will die. #FucktheGOP. Millions okay with me as long as they are right wing conservatives.

Rand Paul tested positive

It is not "okay" for anyone to die of anything preventable, ever. I had to say this.

@Paul4747 They are trying to kill us all...this is war Paul and I am NOT SORRY for saying so. Never wished harm on another creature in my life until I had to live with anxiety EVERY SINGLE DAY thanks to the Nazis in office. If it's me or them that die...I pick them.

GMLOGMD

I echo that.

The moment fear enters any situation, then you have already lost. Fear can be uncomfortable and crippling. But eliminating it would be the equivalent of taking down your home alarm system because it sometimes makes annoying sounds. We must be fearless. Having said that, being fearless doesn’t mean eliminating fear. It means knowing how to leverage fear. Manage it, control it, use your brain to steer it into tangible action.

Hmmm, did you listen to the song?

Seasons don't fear the reaper
Nor do the wind, the sun or the rain
(We can be like they are)

You seem to have missed the songs point . . .

We all die, its easy, you quit
Its the living that is painful and hard.

Permanent changes to civil liberties/privacy. During these times we need to help each other and not count on the government to provide assistance.

All of the above....

All of the above, because we are all interconnected.

The choices are under stated but I agree with your reply illuminating human community as ecosystem

Fear kills the capacity for rational thought, so I have concerns about where this is all going and how we will handle these challenges. There will certainly be deaths and a change in how we live going forward because of the reality of a secondary outbreak that could be as bad or worse than this one. The financial impacts will be great and I expect that a global recession is the most likely outcome and a further focusing of wealth to the top of the economic order. Civil unrest is bound to result and a crackdown on civil liberties will result, this will almost certainly be abused by the power elites.
I probably should be afraid but instead I am taking steps to protect myself and my loved ones by planting food and securing essentials for the future.

I’m primary caregiver to a 95 year old. She has lived through the Depression and served in the Navy during WW2, so it is hard to see her have to live through this. Fortunately, She’s pretty healthy and we have haven’t had to go anywhere. I’m doing what I can to keep us safe - not going out, no one coming in, and disinfecting everything that comes into the house.

Freedom comes with responsibility, the administration that we have feels running forth with reckless abandon is a good idea. There's a whole lot of irresponsible going on. I worry about the health care workers and the strain on the hospitals. I think I'll watch The Stand. 😋

What can we do - vote this ignorant administration out and flip the senate.
Result, an administration that just might rely on science.

I fear the fascist corporations will increase their stranglehold upon our republic.... but I am hopeful EcoSocialism will advance local organic living and SUSTAINABILITY peace through Green jobs WWW.HOWIEHAWKINS.US

With the 2 Trillion support package just passed, that will mean about a quarter of the total national debt has happened just since Trump became president. My worries lately is about how if our national debt grows too quickly then U.S. Treasury Bonds may no longer be considered a "safe" investment, causing the U.S. economy to possibly collapse. The faster the U.S. national debt grows then this far out possibility becomes more of a possibility
