Some site updates

  1. Doing some tests on mobile main page to simplify it and make it easier to click on things. Some members said the links were too small to click so they're buttons. Also, we've never been happy with the small post form on the main mobile page so we're testing just going to a dedicated page to make the post (more room, less confusing). Happy to get your feedback.

  2. Added a setting to let you require members to have a photo before they contact you. See [agnostic.com]

  3. Group owners can now set limits on the number of posts per day per member. See the group settings page.

  4. Added the ability to find posts that have more than 1 tag (e.g., "agnostic, atheist" + check "Has all search keywords?" means that both tags need to be the title or body of the post.

  5. Updated the messenger input window to grow as you type so you can see what you're typing.

  6. Made alerts a little bit smarter to reduce the number of similar alerts for the same thing (e.g., if someone tags you in a comment to your own post).

A dozen or so other bug fixes.

Known bug: some text is getting removed from posts in groups (e.g., 'https'😉 after it has been submitted. I've made a little patch that fixes it before members see it but I still haven't found the root reason).

BONUS: For the people who read this post, you can check out a free book that was donated to our members about "Why There is No God" here: [agnostic.com]
We are waiting until we find a few more titles before we create a "resource center".

Thanks!

Thank you for providing us this venue! It's appreciated! Xoxo! ♥

Please allow us to caption our photos. Adding the date and location makes photos more clear and interesting.

Also, give us enough room to add a humorous caption.

Exercise photo: "I feel like an octopus doing abdominal exercises. January 2017."

Back jeans pic: "You can see a dime in the back pocket. August 2017."

I was thinking about this very thing just this morning!

Just want to state for the record that I am so happy with this site & the community that we have here! To do this for us for free is just an amazing gift & I for one appreciate it no end! I've found a home here & many friends! Kudos! Love! & many, many thanks!

"thin" is the text I frequently see missing. "thinker" publishing as "ker" .. "something" publishing as "someg" .. "with interest" as "wi terest" etc....

That's an interesting software quirk! I'd seen a few such examples, but not connected them. Good catch.

I noticed this the other day! "Think" and "thing" were just "k" and "g" in one of my posts and I had to edit it. I thought it was wierd

I've noticed this as well. At first I thought it weird that a person could spell something wrong twice. 😉

Honestly, I thought this was some new chat abbreviation. lol 😛

The resource centre sounds interesting. I'm wondering what "donate" here means from a copyright point of view. Could we share texts and titles for the community to read? I have a huge library of ePub and PDFs on the subjects discussed here. Others overtime have shared with me and I would very happy to share on.

Also secondly, how is the Google log on with the mobile app coming along? If it would be easier I'd be happy to have a separate or new log on with password without the Google email address. Just wondering.

Thanks for all.

Ps. When are going to get an airing on CNN or NBC? A growing community of nonbelievers. 🙂

Not sure I'm following this sign but we have an app user group at "Non-nude sexy pics". I have used the app since it came out. I signed in once with my agnostic.com password that I set and can reset anytime, the app gets me into the site just by opening it. Atm there can be problems with youtube and Facebook videos playing from the app, whether having signed into ag.com flows through to auto link i do not know. @Admin?

@FrayedBear at the moment you can't sign into the app with Google email address and password so until that changes the App can't be used and access is only through browser. Not quite what the Tele app group is for. I think these things should be shared for all community.

"Non-nude sexy pics" has the following brief "A group for the Android and Apple phone users to discuss pros, cons, tips, benefits, pitfalls and suggest improvements to Admin for the benefit of all."
Google has nothing to do with Apple as far as I'm aware. "Non-nude sexy pics" can be joined by level 1 members of Agnostics.com - I do not understand your beef @David1955

@FrayedBear I think there was a misunderstanding. There was an error in my comment. I meant "Not quite SURE what the Tele App group is for .." It was not meant as a criticism. Sorry for the confusion. Wish the group well. My view is any info about the app can be given as a general post. That's all I meant.

@David1955 My understanding is that we have two very decent Admins programming plus an unknown number of admins helping general functioning. As always more heads are better than one. I set the group "Non-nude sexy pics" up as there seemed few using the telephone/ tablet app. not only as an information tool but a conduit to the differing admins to learn of user concerns and suggestions. If no one considers that there is benefit of such a group I will fold it.
My understanding of the function of groups was to concentrate interests and leave the main group postings free of clutter to enable greater projection of the value of Agnostic.com within this overbearing religious world. @Admin, @SiteSupport and @admin

@FrayedBear Okay, point taken.

Awesome!

Also @Admin as a "Greeter" got a DM today that I wasn't sure I was able to help with. Tried emailing/DM to Admin and also wrote a note on the page that offers assistance.

I know you guys are doing big improvements - but I'm left with a newbie who said they couldn't log in - but they DMd me?
Still baffled.

Yes, some members don't know if they're logged in or not. Will look for the message in my inbox.

What is DM please?

@Admin I put my name down for greeter but don't know if any are sent out as no list is supplied of names letters sent to in my name. Please advise.

@FrayedBear We only show the greeter message to you if the person responds. About 20% of messages get a reply.

@FrayedBear I get a lot of "Thank yous". I'm probably getting all of yours! lol

@RavenCT I also send some out independently advising people of groups I host if their bio indicates interest eg. Food so some may get one from you and one from me.

@FrayedBear Oh I'm a "Direct Greeter" new folks get a message from me welcoming them and offering assistance (You write that yourself). I average one to two DMs a day (Direct messages to my Inbox).

I also do what you're talking about and if someone has an interest point them towards certain groups (Even ones that aren't mine! lol).

The DM allows them to ask for help finding things or understanding the site when they are brand new.

@RavenCT It has dawned that your DM is FB's PM. I am referring to the plan started about a month ago for, as you say people to write a welcoming letter which is then used by the site to automatically greet newcomers. We do not get a list of those or cc of the message hence I am in the dark as whether any were sent. If i receive response it is frequently unclear if it is to my private greeting or the standardised letter which I may have duplicated. C'est la vie.

@FrayedBear Oh I always see my greeting first if they write a response. You should too.

@RavenCT Good point. I will have to carefully look as it has changed since it started. Thanks for all the good feed back.

@FrayedBear I too invite people to boards - but I just give them a link in one of these boxes. (Whether it's one of mine or not!) 😉

@RavenCT boards?

@FrayedBear Referencing what you posted earlier
"I also send some out independently advising people of groups I host if their bio indicates interest eg. Food so some may get one from you and one from me.".

I have a couple groups too. I tell people right in these posts (like this one) if they might have an interest,

I provide a direct link. (I open an extra tab - link to the board - and copy and paste it back so they can just click it and go look). Free advertising plus we probably keep more new folks with the boards.

I do it even for boards that I didn't create.

@RavenCT I just use the "g:" reference which takes them to the group page which includes its raison d'etre and sign up button.

I'm very appreciative of all the work which goes into this site! THANKS!
