An agnostic heterosexual, whose hobbies include: reading, writing, sports, music, dance, wine tasting, and just about anything else; depending on mood and company. Intelligent, humorous, thought-provoking, silly, and fun-loving dialogue is always welcome. Free thinkers don't hesitate, you inspire me. Religious zealots think twice, you annoy me. No spam or scams

Do you see yourself in obligation to prove to others why do you choose to be atheist or agnostic.. ?
Comment: No obligation whatsoever. Some will get it, some won’t, so what.
Are you the only atheist/agnostic in your household?
Comment: Yes, (only agnostic) because I live alone
Anyone ever feel lonely and want to go out to meet new people but your anxiety stops you, that's what I'm dealing with lately
Comment: Loneliness is a common issue. Many anxieties get weaker when we face their cause. Yes, this can be exhausting, and frustrating, but it will eventually become easier with practice. Over time, these anxieties will dissipate, and new seeds will grow. Get rid of the weeds, and grow the right seeds

Comment: Hi vincentkero, and welcome to agnostic.com
If this is something recent, and not a recurring issue, I'd wonder what feelings or experiences are contributing. We all have fears; but perhaps not the same fears. I encourage you to find that voice in you that stimulated you to be social before, and see if it helps this time. If not, you are the best judge of what works for you. Don't forget, people will always have opinions, but the ones most relevant, are the ones that are honest, and equitable, and come from people that know and care about you. Hope this helps
My 16 yr old son is about to become an Eagle Scout in a few months. One of his friends moms who is a hardcore christian conservative pulled my son aside to tell him he may have some trouble getting his Eagle due to his being Agnostic. I assured him its all semantics and as long as he identifies his good moral character and his "beliefs" that help guide him that this should be good enough without lying or conforming. Im quite honestly very upset w this woman but my son, who is an old soul and can handle issues like that way better than I can, reasurred me that its people like her are the exact reason he wants nothing to do with religion. He absolutely gets it that he cannot say he does or does not believe as it is a christian organization that he has worked on most of his life. He only recently became interested in politics and was able to name his beliefs and in red state Indiana he is the minority for those alone Any advice for my son on how he should handle the religious aspect of his becoming and Eagle Scout?...
Comment: Seems like he doesn’t need advice, because you’ve done great teaching him. His “old soul” is a an asset, and as long as he remembers to think before he speaks, he should be fine.
If a genie granted you 3 wishes, and you used the first one to wish for happiness, what would you need with the other two?
Comment: Great question! As long as that wish for happiness was according to how I define it, I probably wouldn't need the other two; however, my second wish would be for three additionally wishes. I'd wish to end world hunger and poverty, and the third would be the ability to use additional three any time I choose.
My dads entire life he was an Atheist. He battled cancer for several years and upon his death bed when he was not of sound mind, his wife had him baptized and had a minister save his soul. This angers me bc I know it was more for HER peace of mind. She is no longer a part of mine or my sons lives. Am I wrong to be upset about this or should I be happy in case she was right and we were wrong all along?...
Comment: Heartfelt condolences for your loss! You're not wrong, but I wouldn't punish her by removing you and your son from her life. In her mind, she was doing the right thing, and even though it was misguided, it was an act of love. I encourage you to place you and your son back into her life.
I thought this was suppose to be a community of like-minded people. So why are many calling others beliefs stupid? We are, for the most part, in agreement that organized religion is false. So why are we calling out small differences in our beliefs? None of us are going to be the exact same. So why are we expecting our beliefs to be the same? I believe in a Karma like force, some people believe in reincarnation, some believe in ghost, some believe in the flying Spaghetti Monster! So why call the belief stupid? Of you can't say something nice, or constructive, why bother to say anything at all? ...
Comment: Unfortunately some either don't know how, or lack interest in expressing their dissent respectfully. As a child, my grandfather used to tell me to have thick skin, and not to let every needle poke me. Some use sarcasm, witty humor, and various other ways to make their point; try to take it all in stride, and just consider it "their style" (unless you find it personally offensive). Lastly, try to keep in mind that both ignorance and intelligence are ubiquitous, but civility is partially measured by our personal threshold
A couple of good reads: Decoding The Universe by Charles Seife, deals w/ quantum mechanics & information theory, ultimately posing the theory that some information theorists have, that the purpose of everything is the storage of & passing on of information. Evolution For Everyone, "How Darwin's Theory of Evolution Can Change the Way We Think About Our Lives" by David Sloan Wilson, reveals how understanding evolution sheds light on much more than biological adaptations, including such things as social behaviors....
Comment: HI andygee, and welcome to agnostic.com! These are great recommendations
Having seperate bedrooms: Would you be open to this?
Comment: I could see the pros and cons of this. Interesting, I guess it could work depending on the couple
A lonely 70-year-old widow decided that it was time to marry again. She put an ad in the local newspaper that read: “Husband wanted! Must be in my age group, must not beat me, must not run around on me and must still be good in bed. All applicants please apply in person.” The following day, she heard the doorbell. Much to her dismay, she opened the door to see a gray-haired gentleman sitting in a wheelchair. He had no arms or legs. “You’re not really asking me to consider you, are you?” the widow asked: “Just look at you — you have no legs!” The old gent smiled: “Therefore, I cannot run around on you!” “You don’t have any arms either!” she snorted. Again, the old man smiled: “Therefore, I can never beat you!” She raised an eyebrow and asked intently: “Are you still good in bed?” The old man leaned back, beamed a big smile and said: “I rang the doorbell, didn’t I?”...

You're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Feel the city breakin' and everybody shakin'
And we're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive"

How do you contain your frustration and resentment toward those who proclaim to be Christians and yet support the inhumane, prejudicial behavior of this administration?
Comment: I don't resent christians or any one who honestly strives to be fair, and decent towards all human beings regardless. However, it baffles me that people know he is a misogynist, and bigot that spews hatred, division, and violence, yet they still support him. I give him credit for managing to "inspire" so many others to express their opposition to him in less than 1 year in president. What does he mean by Make America Great Again? Does he mean the US should go back to a time when men were disrespectful towards women, and had "locker room" talk of "grab her by the p_ _ _ y." Would you want your daughter, niece, friend, etc around a guy with such little respect for women? It would probably be just as bad, if not worse than what happened to Monica Lewinski. Does he mean take America back to a time when the KKK used to hang black people in the name of Christianity?
Do you think you would be happier and healthier if you had sex more often?
Comment: Absolutely! Especially as part of a loving relationship
Do you date outside of your race?

I think I've decided I really like all you guys. I'm new, but so far - liking what I'm reading!!! :)
