Approximately 500,000 cats served on both sides of the trenches on the western front. During The Great War (WWI), these felines had many essential roles from rodent control, regimental mascot and much needed moral boosters. They even laid the heaviest sacrifice of all on the altar of freedom as the only means of early warning for colorless and odorless gas attacks.
And they all served very proudly and bravely.
