I just read about how wombats were accomodating other tiny animals and even lyrebirds in their holes while escaping from the terrible bushfires in Australia. This little piece of information bothers me no end about how these animals suffer. But just like the introvert I am, I could barely talk about it with anyone.
I haven't talked to anyone about the fires in Australia, either. But I don't think it is my introversion that has produced this reaction; for me, it is simply that the whole idea of so much death and devastation is massively upsetting. If I talk to others about it, I just feel worse.
Re: the "generous wombats" theory: I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings here, but snopes.com says that while animals in Australia MAY be finding refuge in wombat burrows, it is NOT true that wombats are going out and "sheperding in" animals in need of rescue. Not sure who started this fiction, and not sure why anyone would, except to make themselves feel a little better about all the devastation.
I can't bear to watch the news on the devastation.
