Houston maybe good for another year or 2 just bc of what they already have in place, but theyve screwed themselves for future. The lost 1st and 2nd rd picks for next 2 yrs and have almost no leadership in place. Demoted Reid ryan, nolan quit, asst FM fired for harassing that woman reporter, and now fired manager and gm. And I would think all negative publicity last 3 months may affect their ability to extend players and sign free agents.
They got a slap on the wrist. The owner was left completely off of the hook. The fine he got is the equivalent of a parking ticket to most people. He still has the WS trophy. The rest of the league's teams were warmed not to comment on the punishment the Astros got.
@JimG I dunno what to think on severity of the punishment. But overall the last 4 months haven't been a good look for them. The owner got off bc supposedly all indications were he had not knowledge of what was going on, which I somewhat find believable. I mean really how often do u think a owner enters the dugout, or bullpen, or even interacts with players or coaching staff? That's what they have presidents, gm, and front office for.
@RickyAdams That really depends on the owner. Some have been a lot more hands on than others, and if he didn't know you could make the argument that he should have, but MLB doesn't like to tell owners how to run their teams
There's stealin' signs and then there is what Houston did. I am glad MLB is getting more strick with performance enhancing drugs also.
