Even though I strongly prefer to be by myself and am very quiet, I have been challenging myself to be more open and social. I decided on this course of action due to my self examination. This also means i need more alone time, which i'm happy with! #goals

If you are younger than... let's say 40, go out as much as you can and make as much acquaintances/friends because once you have passed certain milestone then you will want to be social and life will show you the hard way that it's too late for that. Life is mean that way....

About 8 years ago, after a traumatic break up , I was physically alone for the first time. This helped me to make some changes. I decided to join some “Meetup” groups. I heard of one offering Ecstatic Dance meetings. I was terrified to try this, but I sensed it would be good for me, so I jumped in, eyes closed, holding my breath! It was one of the most amazing experiences watching myself open up just a little, just enough. I still attend and I have also been able to dance in other public places now...whenever there is live music! I still have to struggle to make eye contact and smile, but when I do this, people often smile back! And when they don’t, that’s ok! Just a few weeks ago a guy gave me a weird look while dancing, and instead of feeling traumatized (as I used to) I began laughing! It struck me funny for days!
Progress can be made when we challenge ourselves to jump outside of our box.
More power to you friend ✌???

Best of luck! That's why I joined this site - even if it's just virtually, I'm trying to be more social.

Last year I had to attend seven weddings and, between the social expectation and twisting the knife of loneliness, it damn near killed me (not hyperbole).

This year, I'm taking a few vacations to meet up with some internet friends for the first time as well as get together with another old group of friends. All the travel is expensive, but a few more relaxed and more close-knit get-togethers have been way better for my mental health

I prefer being alone too but am not at all quiet lol As a very outspoken introvert I would like to offer a suggestion based on my personal experience of being open with people. It is not always emotionally safe to put ourselves out there and negative experiences make it even more difficult so as you move forward with taking this risk (bravo for your bravery) take the people that support you along on your journey (follow their posts so you can comment safely) and block anyone that does not show you respect. There are a lot of very kind and thoughtful people here that will support you on your journey but there are also people that show up as though it is their mission to destroy your joy. (Block them)
As my daughter would say "Hang with the people that celebrate you, not the ones that berate you." I hope you have positive experiences and share more with us. Congratulations on taking that terrifying step and posting!
