Who, here, ever "air knocked" when going from door-to-door? During the last 2 years of my witness life, I was so ashamed of what I was learning, and I was already to the point that I knew it was a scam, a cult, and false, that I was "air knocking" on doors during the door-to-door service that I had obligated myself too over the summer during a stint of "pioneer work" that I did.

Did anyone else ever do this? Sometimes it was pretty difficult since most of the time, you'll see TWO members of the Kingdom Hall knocking on doors together (buddy system, emotional and intellectual support I guess). I got by this by teaming up with one of my brothers who was also just like me....we always went from door to door together and took turns "air knocking".

I never air knocked. Wish I had someone with me that would be cool with it though. I would always just hope they weren’t home when it was my turn.

Not exactly on the topic of "air knocking" here, just knocking in general. One of the craziest things for me to think about is having a random stranger come to someone's door and knock until they answer, tell them that they know more spiritually than the said person does and that they have "the truth", and then to have the resident believe them and join their cult, and be recruited to knock on other people's doors for years to come.

The idea that you'd just listen and agree to a random stranger makes my head spin. You have to wonder what's going on in somene's life to just say "uh-huh" and agree to this bullshit. It makes me wonder what kind of person could logically sort this in their mind. Let me just first say that I love my mother very much, and that she's actually a pretty sharp woman- but somehow this is how they got her!

That is so true. But there is a psychology to how they deliver their message that makes people feel "warm" and "inviting"....that's part of their hook that they throw out. Oh, they're such nice people! It's a TRAAAAAAP!!! But you are exactly right. They look for socially awkward people, or people who don't have a good self-image or self-confidence with themselves, then they throw out that line and begin reeling them in.

@DeeTee yep. "The New world translation of the holy scriptures."

Thankfully I don’t remember ever being the one to talk at a door, if I did it was maybe a couple times at most. I was an unbaptized publisher for a while but mostly I observed older brothers give their presentations. I gave talks in the second school at the hall and was horrible at it, and it was embarrassing even though it was a smaller audience. Public speaking has never been a strength of mine but it’s funny to think of two of you air knocking on doors. β€œWow we had an unusually large percentage of not-at-homes today” πŸ™‚
