Just finished reading "Real Queer America: LGBT Stories From Red States" by Samantha Allen.
It's a real life road trip through red states looking at LGBT persons who choose to live there and not leave. I didnt' know what to expect, but as I read on through the book reading the stories, I started to develop a better hope for the future America, which I did not have before reading it. more than anything it gave me hope that Trump/Pence and the general hate that has risen up is more a lat gasp from the past than an actual solid cultural trend.

Look at Israel. Very conservative Jews are a relatively small minority and yet continue to wield outsized political power.

Well, social/cultural changes do happen slowly over periods of many years. However, the social/cultural pendulum has either reached or nearly reached its apex, and is about to stop and swing back to the left. The younger people are just not buying into what the right wing has been trying to sell them.
