I just got to a 22-day streak at duolingo, most of which has been with a goal of 50 XP per day (the highest they have, and they call it "insane" ). Crown level 68 in Spanish. The way duilingo is setup, 50 XP amounts to 5 lessons, in most cases. I usually do more anyway.

This is actually the most disciplined I've ever been. Maybe I can finally learn this language. 😛

Once you have made the basic progress, you start to see the shape of things and it gets easier. Well done for sticking at it. I don't know what USA Spanish is like, but in Spain people use really strict grammar, especailly with verbs, so keep going, and you will impress other people as well as yourself!

You can tell when you're beginning to win your fight with a language, and it's a good feeling - there's no way you should lose the battle after that point, unless you burn out by pressing on too hard with a learning method that bores you rigid. I'd be interested to know how many hours a day you've been spending on this.

I haven't really been keeping track. In fact, I get so into it that I lose track of time, so I definitely don't feel bored or that I'm pushing myself too hard. I would guess not more than two hours to reach that 50 point daily goal.

Two hours a day isn't excessive, so it shouldn't do any damage. I usually settle down to that after the initial rush, but I've never used Duolingo, so I don't know what the level you've reached actually means, but forty hours of serious work on any language is in itself a substantial achievement. Keep it up and good luck!

@David_Cooper I kept track of the time today. It took me about an hour and a half to get through 5 level 0 lessons to reach my daily goal. I think the lessons get longer and more difficult with each subsequent level.

Posted by David_CooperI've often seen these in English, but doubtless the rest of the world does them too.
