After ten years enjoying the life of a retiree, I was asked to tutor -local library-for a group of seniors learning Spanish. I loved to be a Prof. of Spanish then and I am loving it now...as much as I do the eagerness to learn shown by the seniors..
I think we come at learning with enthusiasm and motivation and get to be out and about with people while we're at it.
That is one reason...but, as it was said by a 72 y/o student: "Two years ago I went to Barcelona and needed to pay an interpreter. No fun. "
This 72 y/o -Clarence- today speaks Spanish almost as I do...and I am a native of said language.

Posted by JettyI wonder if this works in any other language, though, in Chinese, for example.

Posted by David_CooperI've often seen these in English, but doubtless the rest of the world does them too.
