Here in central Illinois, I've only seen a couple of monarchs, but have been able to collect a few small caterpillars. The other day two of my young nieces were visiting, so we converted empty orange juice containers to raising chambers, and each of them went home with a small caterpillar and enough milkweed to raise it to the chrysalis stage.

I have not seen any swallowtails, but have managed to collect one small giant yellowtail caterpillar. It is frustrating to know that the host plants are there, along with an abundance of flowers and flowering bushes, and still the butterflies aren't. They couldn't possibly have it better somewhere else, could they?

I think all insect populations are stressed due to pesticide use

Posted by DAB456What kind is this? I think I know, but would like another opinion.

Posted by bigpawbulletsNot sure what these guys are. But suddenly we seem to be getting a few of them in the "Habitat":

Posted by bigpawbulletsSilly meme. But an attractive butterfly. Photoshopped or real?
