Welcome to the group. Please feel free to share posts in regards to Neurodiversity.

I have synesthesia. I have a foster son with Autism. I work in an environment that services and supports a neurodiverse population.

I am raising my granddaughter, she is a very smart 10-year-old, nonverbal child that uses PECs, sign language and her tablet to communicate. I get support from family and friends, but I am the main caregiver and guardian. As she approaches teenagehood, my worries increase because our ability to communicate is not the best. Plus teenagers are not easy to start with. I am sure that life will not be boring in the years to come. 🙂

I have a daughter in the autism spectrum. She met someone in the internet who showed up with the police to take her stuff and drive in her car. Now, the Mother of that woman is receiving my daughters check, driving her car while her daughter is not doing anything. Because my daughter is over 21 years old, the police cannot do anything. Although, my daughter called me to tell me how much she is suffering. I went to legal aid, they cannot help me. They say that is a common misfurtune of what they call vulnerable adults. Most of them you don't ever hear from them. My hear is broken. I'm trying to see if there anything I have missed by contacting anyone in the autism spectrum. I'm not giving up.

Yikes. Not sure how to help on this one. You will have to get your daughter on board to wanting to change these circumstances. For example, she will have to advocate for herself in so far as lodging a complaint, or going after (filing a report against) the woman who is now taking her checks. I am not sure where you are located but there has got to be something able to be done. Have you contacted local agencies that support or help or offer services for Autistic individuals? Perhaps they can point you in a direction. I know you say you went to legal aid, but there has to be a service somewhere, that can assist. Even a mental health counselor willing to give consultation on avenues to venture.

Wishing you the best of luck!

In the US, you can call Adult Protective Services. 855-444-3911. Does your daughter have any identification? Call the above number and talk with you. If they suspect that your daughter is capable of making her own choices, they will not get involved. If they suspect she is there against her will/being manipulated, they are legally bound to assist her. I hope you are able to help your daughter. Hugs

@crazycurlz , I contacted them but they contacted them before me and paint them a bad picyure of me w/o investigating. My daughter cannot defend herself. She is terrified of comfrontations. I'm working on supporting her and encourage her to advocate for herself but unfortunatly, we were working (Vermont mental health team) to learn that skill and its been a long struggle. After talking to legal aid, I think I should start an organization that could implements investigations on both parts before someone can take over vulnerable adults. This could include training in care and advocacy in all phases such ad, education, independence, resources, etc. The reason for this is that there is a great amount if vulnerable adults taken away by suspicious strangers to never known their whereabouts.

Thank you so much for your input.

@Basilisa01 I'm sorry you are both going through this. I hope you'll keep us all posted on what progress you make. I will follow your posts. If I run across anything that might be useful, I will send it along. Best wishes

Howdy. Diagnosed w/Aspergers myself, but later they changed it to ASD. Fun fact: My older brother has it, his best friend too, and even his girlfriend. It's like we sometimes unknowingly seek out each other. (We found out afterwards near adulthood).

Nice to meet you! It’s cool that we all do that. 😉

Nice to meet you. My son has high functioning autism. He is also a devout atheist because his momma raised him right.
