I figured I might as well make a post here letting people know that I'm a highly functioning Aspie. If people want to ask me things about high functioning autism (I likely do not know enough about lower functioning to be able to help you), go right ahead! I'll do my best to answer questions. I was very glad to find this group (:

My youngest son is almost 2 and a half and is just starting 2 talk. He also recently started doing this thing where if he gets excited he kids wiggles his hands up by his head. There r other indicators as well. I guess my questions r 1. How young where you when you found out. 2. Does it affect your life in any way? Good or bad. 3.Also do you recommend these classes they want him 2 go 2?

  1. I found out when I was 22...xD. That tells you how high functioning...and that I have a whole slew of other mental issues that could atleast mostly explain any abnormal behaviour.

  2. Yes, definitely, though like I said, its been fairly minimal compared to most people, as far as I can differentiate the autistic symptoms from the PTSD, depression, anxiety and ADHD lol. I have trouble with socializing, well, properly. It mainly manifests in my bluntness, not understanding why people lie, sometimes pressuring people about things cuz I may not understand why theyd not wanna be open about something when it seems like there'd be no reason to not wanna be...? Like its not deeply personal stuff or anything...can't think of an example for you though, sorry. Which ties into how dishonest other people tend to be comparatively.
Im pretty literal, still - it used to be a good bit worse. I can sometimes be less emotional about things - I have other illnesses to blame for messing with that one, Im sure. Many autistic people can seem kind of robotic, especially the men in my experience. As for other things that I can't really tell you about from my experience, you can always just google, or ask someone here.

  3. I camt help you with that one. Im not even sure what classes you mean - like special ed or something? Id suggest making a post about it here and seeing if people in the group can help.

@Neraven thank you, and I will attempt 2 post about it. I'm not very computer literate tho, lol

Posted by MelbatesMy nephew is high functioning autistic. One friend is Asperger's. My "second mom's" grandson is Asperger's. And, another friend is higher functioning autism than my nephew.
