I'm an Autistic woman who works with children with developmental disabilities, mostly Autism. Also have Epilepsy, Synaesthesia, OCD, Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder with Avoidant features, and a lot of immune dysfunction.
Crazy cat lady, love books and music, makes most of my own food due to Celiac Disease and multiple food allergies.
I know how damaged I am, and I try to both accept myself and remediate the worst damage with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
My dad was on Autism Spectrum, my mother has Borderline Personality Disorder and is in denial.
Hi, welcome, I hope you don't mind me saying, but I find Synaesthesia fascinating.
We are all damaged, all humans are, but we are all individuals and pretty damn good in our own right.
I am hyperthymesic which I think is made possible by my aspergers (don't like that term), one brother has really bad OCD and the other well, he is off the scale from 45 years of heavy drug use.
My Synaesthesia is mostly annoying. I smell in color.
@TaraMarshall I can understanding it being frustrating, if I may. With your eyes closed, do you still smell normal scents? ie not the ones inspired by colours.
@Rugglesby, I smell things then get a "wash" of the color in my vision. It overlays what I'm looking at, even with my eyes closed.
@TaraMarshall OK, I can understand how that could be very disconcerting.

Posted by MelbatesMy nephew is high functioning autistic. One friend is Asperger's. My "second mom's" grandson is Asperger's. And, another friend is higher functioning autism than my nephew.
