One should strive to act with compassion and empathy towards all creatures in accordance with reason.

The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.

One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.

The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one's own.

Beliefs should conform to our best scientific understanding of the world. We should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit our beliefs.

People are fallible. If we make a mistake, we should do our best to rectify it and remediate any harm that may have been caused.

Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word.

These tenants are the primary reason I joined TST. They speak to me on a very deep level as if they were articulations of the values I already cared deeply about but had not yet been articulated.
All of them resonate with me but I feel a particular draw towards the "One's body is inviolable subject to one's will alone."
The other major thing that pushed me into the decision to join related directly to this tenant. I had been reading up on TST because of their various activism and legal battles that had been in the media, then I got into a huge argument with a former friend who is a Catholic where I full on snapped at him loosing control which never happens to me. He was telling people in a conversation I walked in on that transgender people shouldn't be allowed medical treatments such as hormone therapy and SRS... Or as he put it they "should be stopped from mutilating themselves." As I said, I flipped on him, shouted him down and stormed out shaking. That night all I could think over and over was "one's body is inviolable subject to one's will alone."
The part about opposing psuedoscience and not distorting scientific facts to fit our beliefs also really speaks to me.
