The Roots and Shoots Program created by Dr Jane Goodall is the best idea for sustainability. It empowers the youth to identify needs, resources and a plan of action. I highly recommend checking it out. There is a course coming up soon if anyone is interested. [rootsandshoots.org]

On this island there is a big program for the youth. It is part of the BLM/San Juan Island National Monument. [liccupdates.blogspot.com]
2 years ago some 11 young people assembled on an island named Henry. We spent 3 days doing conservation work. The youth were from all over the USA and 8 were hearing impaired and 3 were signers. They then came to Lopez for 2 more days of work. They were a part of [nwyouthcorps.org]
In Seattle I worked for a city Park whose mission is bringing Nature to Urban kids. [seattle.gov]
The idea of no child left inside is a big deal in our area and I'm glad to see elsewhere. We need more much more.
