I am the mom of a T1D1 13 year old son, who was diagnosed at age 4. It has been a really rough 2 years as he has decided to take a permanent diabetic vacation. His A1C has been awful and it has been a constant tense struggle to care for him. I fought with the insurance company to trade in his Animas Vibe which went bankrupt and go back to the Medtronic pump and we just got the new Dexcom G6. It has been a game changer this first week. We are all able to follow his BGs and he is actually taking some interest again. This mother's heart is feeling cautiously optimistic that this long fight might just be over!

It's bad enough being an adult with the struggle. I really feel for the kids.
A good friend of mine went to a camp for kids with diabetes and it has lasted a lifetime for him as it emphasized self care.
At that time it was all testing by comparing test strips to a color chart!
And injections a million times a day.
When you talk about pumps they can monitor so much for you - it's a huge game changer. I imagine if he is the least bit science minded it makes it way more interesting.
Now if they'd just come up with that chip that could constantly monitor blood glucose?
I'm so tired of finger sticks and I have limited skin to put a monitor on.
(Even with a constant monitor they still want you to do finger sticks and if you have circulation issues? The glucose levels can vary huge amounts between your two hands!). That was a shocker. (So do I believe the hand that tells me to mainline juice?). 
Yes yes I do.
