Northern Irish folksinger/ songwriter Paul Brady took an old tradional song, thought to be Irish in origin, although other regions of the British Isles could and do lay claim to it, and he indisputably made it his own.
Is it anti-British, or anti-colonialist, or anti-war…or just anti-army recruitment?
It’s generally categorised as a “protest song “ and became popular around the time there was a surge in protest songs in the late 60s & 1970s.
