I'm getting ready for the science fiction convention season. I made so much jewelry in the past that I have enough for several sales. One thing I am considering is putting it in some sort of consignment shop. My main worry is shoplifters-- I've found that people can be resistant to buying my jewelry, but they have no problem with swiping it. How well do hand crafter things do in consignment shops?
At one show I attended, a vendor had an entire flat of product stolen. It was horrible, especially as the thief was a member of the hosting club. The vendor was given contact information for the thief and so made some recovery and the thief was evicted from the club and banned from all future shows. Nasty!
Depending on the shop sales can be slow. You have to keep a running list of what’s at each shop and check in with them regularly.—just to be social. Shoplifting there too. My Mom sold like this for a few years. Her best business was flea markets that are comparable to festivals now.
Best and easiest are Etsy and Instagram now.
