I am a retired NYC public school teacher of English and drama, as well as a teacher trainer...all this for 35 years. My son and daughter-in-law are both high school teachers as well, as was my late husband. I think the best-kept secret in the USA is how smart NYC kids are. So many of them come to school every day from situations of struggle, and they succeed. I am so proud of my kids, some of whom I am still in touch with. I love to add my two cents to any discussion,and I support the teachers in the red states who are slowly awakening to their right to speak up about their classroom conditions.
