First real snow. Woke up this morning to see 4 - 5 inches of snow had fallen. We have not had snow this deep for some 3 years. The forecast is for warming temps and later rain so I suspect it will all be gone in a few days. Still very beautiful. Went out to take some pics. and saw my neighbor (an Inuit) walking his dog. He said it reminded him of home.

I received about 2 inches an hour south of Eugene on the night before last. It didn’t seem to stick anywhere outside the little valley I live in.

I was told that on the mainland (first city at the ferry terminal) they got over a foot. We are in a rain shadow and get less precipitation than the mainland. Deep snow is unusual for us.

It was clear on Wed. so went for a 3 1/2 mile walk. Had to get out of the house. Today, Thur., most of the snow is gone. Driveway and streets are clear and it is warming.

Posted by TO_BYI'm remembering Sam for Memorial Day. He died over this last year. A memorable street-performance artist up here. He originally hailed from Tonga. Big spirited. Loved America.
