My mom was very upset with me when she found out I was not christian like she was. She tried taking me to church a couple times growing up but I always had giggle fits and couldn't sit still. Anyway, one day she just randomly called me to her room and told me she spoke with god and she decided she would be taking my place in hell for not accepting Jesus or whatever. And she felt like she was just doing the most motherly selfless act she could think of and all my teenager self could think was, "wow that's really stupid lol"

As an adult I can see where she was coming from but it's just awkward to have someone feel like they need to sacrifice themselves in such an impactful way in their lives over something I care nothing about..

I’m thinking her advisor told her to try to scare you into subjugation this way when their previous attempts failed. Lol

Wow, that's a pretty tough situation... I'm sure it hurts your mom's feelings a lot but there's nothing you can really do to prevent it besides lie about your beliefs and interests. Just remember it's not your fault. I have a hard time having a conversation about anything that would conflict with my family's beliefs. I don't want to change their beliefs because if it brings them comfort and they don't interfere with my beliefs, then I just want to wish them well.
