I've studies and prepared for the past 6 weeks, 12 hours a day, 6 days a week to pass an exam. Today I passed it, then a co-worker says well I was praying for you. Just thought I'd share with you all... What are some gems you've heard from friends, family or co-workers?

I just came to post something of similar frustration, then I saw your post.

Last Friday, in my department meeting, we went over the hurricane damages on our location and other sites like Georgia and Alabama. Those places, like panhandle area, got much more significant damage compared to our location.
They praised god for that. While the repeated said that, I am looking at them and thinking that their loving god did not really care for he others...
That BS bothers me. It is so irracional it makes me gag.

Sat down with a bunch of realtors today... they talked about haunted houses. Houses that they're trying to show or sell and they or their clients believe they have ghos and/or that the houses are haunted. My brain still hurts.

By the way, congrats for passing the test

@PeaceByGreenJobs you are right about that. My manager would never be able to grasp my non-belief and would judge me for that and forget everything he has learned of me . He expects you to be grateful he has you on his prayers. How "christian" is that?

Even Mother Teresa has had awkward moments. I read a story in the newspaper years ago about two nuns that had died in a plane crash. Mother Teresa visited their convent in Africa and gave a eulogy in which she explained that it was God's Will that they had died. Well, the nuns in that convent did not take that theological pronouncement too well. They wondered aloud about what kind of God would want their beloved sisters to die like that.

I live in an area where they're always saying they will pray for me or that God answered their prayers. Even if they know I'm a non-believer. It's exhausting. I believe they are trying to be nice and they think it's polite. I always offer a realistic response such as " I went to a good dr. " or "I really worked hard" or sometimes " It was just good luck" when I have no idea why something happened.

I don't know if it seemed like it to you in this case but sometimes when someone says something like that it almost seems like they're trying to get credit. Maybe they are trying to claim credit for god, like nothing good happens unless god chooses. But hey, you worked really hard for that. Congrats.

i have a suggestion how to respond to such a thing: "thank you for your kind thoughts. it pleases me that you were proud of the hard work i did to pass this exam. i appreciate your faith in my abilities."
