Following is a quote from an article by the late James Laxer, an avowed socialist. A good retort to Doug Ford’s nonsense and to others who oppose socialism but do not actually know what it is.

What do you think of this framing?

“Democratic socialism is the authentic alternative to exclusionist populism. It embraces the proposition that wealth is created by those who work for a living and not by those who control capital.”

I am a Social Democrat. The economy is there for the benefit of the population & not the corrupt corporate oligarchy.

Just because you pay the piper doesn't mean you get to call the tune.

@ToolGuy opposed to corporate tyranny, governments are being replaced by corporate powers, it's just a matter of time.

@ToolGuy I think you come at this from a theoretical perspective and that's fine. I come at it from a practical experience perspective having worked with the super rich for many decades, I know the beast on a personal level. I don't need to read about it, I've been to the mountain in person.
Move along, nothing to see here.

@DonConklin Wealth tends to focus in a small group, everywhere on the planet - the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Typically there are resets through war, famine, plague. revolution, etc but that hasn't happened globally for many decades so the financial system which is based upon debt creation has built to the point that it is no longer sustainable, something has to give. This is never a pretty stage in history, especially if you are poor.

I think that changing one word in the same post to make points in other groups is not an honest way to make points.

I wrote an article, way back, that points out that most aspects of capital markets do not grow fresh wealth, they eat the existing wealth of others - they are, in effect, cannibalistic.

That's very near exact how I think of Democratic Socialism.

I think had Bernie Sanders tackled the word "socialism" in a robust way, the attacks by those seeking to garner a negative view, would've not been able to land any punches. Sadly, that's not what happened.

The Far Right loves to use "socialism" to scare voters. Unfortunately, it seems to work every time.

I believe deeply in your very last paragraph. The current regime will not work and neither does "business as usual."

Having lived in a social democratic country I can vouch for it. It is the best political ideology, both for people with capital and workers.
