I always tried to avoid functions at work across the board. I had little interest in the lives of my coworkers and did not want to hang out with them and try to be social.

I'm not a party person unless it's a small quiet gathering. I remember having to attend events like this when I was working in an office -- I'd put in an appearance, but also wouldn't stay long. When I was younger I'd feel guilty for leaving early; thank goodness that's not the case anymore.

Overindulging while at a work function is so immature and irresponsible! I would also leave!

I know the feeling. My company does events like that. And people definitely go overboard. Sometimes it's funny, other times it's kind of annoying, but the worst is worrying how they are going to get home. My company really looks out for its employees and would pay for a cab if necessary, but they say they are fine. It really worries me sometimes.
