Hi! I am new & this is my 1st post. I am a non-shy, introvert. I just read an interesting article on Introvert Hangover here - [sciencealert.com] [ I hope it's OK to add this link, I couldn't get the Community Guidelines to open so I could read them.]

It was interesting for me because I am a shy introvert, but my husband is a extrovert. So it kind of gives me a better understanding about him. He doesn't get me and that's very irritating sometimes... ?

Interesting article. It seems to me there are quite a lot of us non-shy introverts in this group so maybe that is the norm. With regard to parties, if I have to go, I make sure I arrive rather late when everyone has had a few drinks, make sure that the most gossipy people i know see that I am there, have a few words with my host, then sneak out again and go home. I simply can't do small talk and get criticised for having real conversations and 'monopolising' people.I was brought up to behave well so I am always polite and friendly, but I really don't like a lot of social interaction except with my few close friends.

That's a great article. I agree with everything that was said. I'm also fairly social. I don't dislike people, which is the common belief about introverts. But I find them exhausting in groups. I cannot process a lot of simultaneous stimuli. I can't have a conversation in a noisy environment. I can't stand loud music in restaurants. And I absolutely have to sit at the end of the row and the outside seat in a booth. Always planning my escape 🙂 The most torturous thing for me to have to attend is a party in someone's house, because I feel obligated to stay and talk to people for a few hours. Oh the horror!

Yes, parties are a drag. Especially when your best friend carts you off to meet their newest friends and you have absolutely no interest in them or natural connection to them. Ugh...

I've had to Chair some big campus committees for the past 4 years and I'm definitely going to shrink into nothingness or into a garden, whichever comes first ha ha!

Thanks for the link. I am an introvert. I have a isolating hearing impairment and I believe I might suffer from some Social anxiety. It is more than just being introverted. Welcome to the site.

That's it. I am a non shy introvert never understanding my social anxiety. Thank you for the link & welcome.
It is after a social event that my mind begins running thru evey minor detail that I might have stumbled. So I avoid those social situations. Just going to the grocery store is examined profusely. I will go but if I can delegate to someone else, I do so.

Seems like it is absolutely correct. I can see those introverted behaviors in myself.

Community Guidelines

A key part of this site is the ability for members to post questions, comments, and links. As we want to ensure that this platform is inclusive and discussions lively yet productive, we would like members to consider the following guidelines. Help make this an intelligent place for discussion and it will be.

  1. Remember that people come to their own truth differently.

  2. We welcome debate and dissent but personal attacks, persistent trolling and similar abuse will not be tolerated.

  3. Avoid profanity, vulgarity, etc. Arguments have more impact if they are polite and respectful.

  4. Recognise that there is a difference between criticising a politician, government, organisation, religion or belief and attacking people.

  5. Keep comments as short as possible while still getting your point across.

  6. Stay on topic. If you want to create a new topic thread, simply post it using the "Post" button at the top

  7. If you post a link to another site, please make sure that it's relevant to the discussion.

  8. Whenever possible, do a search first to see if the topic has already been posted. Feel free to comment on the original post as your comment will show up at the top of the list when sorted.

  9. Don't post anything commercial. If you think there is something that the community wants to buy, send it to us first 🙂

Please note that we reserve the right to remove any post for any reason. Obviously, we want to keep the discussion as open as possible but we have limits. We will also remove any content that may put us in legal jeopardy, such as potentially libellous or defamatory postings, or material posted in potential breach of copyright.
