Of cultural appropriation ...

I get peeved when people complain about cultural appropriation. They me strike as being precious about their culture and they obviously feel threatened by other people finding value in their culture.

But let's apply cultural appropriation to its fullest.

The end result is the removal of all Latin names for plant and animals (Julius Ceaser would be delighted, and Carl Linnaeus would be extremely upset) and the banishment of about half the words and phrases in English. Examples include:

  • poncho
  • Venetian blind
  • Swiss roll
  • Danish pastry
  • lèse-majesté
  • peccadillo
  • sombrero
  • rose (the flower)

I call a pox on such political correctness.

They should stop learning English if they think it's a theft of other people's culture, and it's all the more important for them to make such a stand against English because it's so full of words from other languages. It has to be one of the most immoral languages on that basis - right up there with Esperanto.

It's a disgrace! Black actors need to stop playing Hamlet 🤷♂️.

And white people need to stop playing Jesus Christ! 😉

Too right - touché!

Posted by David_CooperI've often seen these in English, but doubtless the rest of the world does them too.
