I only wanted to ask for some advice, but
I have joined in case anyone is willing to help!. I am thinking about buying a new tablet - possibly Kindle Fire 8. All the reviews I have read go on about how good various tablets are for video, gaming, Alexa, and so on. I do not watch videos or films via my computer. i do not play any games except the occasional solitaire. i do not use Alexa. At the moment I have an elderly laptop and a fairly elderly smartphone. I use both a lot for social media, email, reading the news, internet research occasionally and reading books for hours at a time.My laptop and my phone both seem very slow. Anyone recommend what i should get? As a pensioner, I haven't much money .

Thank you to everyone who has replied. I still haven't decided what to do, but your advice is appreciated!

I'd try a new smartphone with a large screen. Get a Bluetooth keyboard for it and you may not need a PC at all depending on what you use it for.

I inherited a Fire tablet when my mum died. I'm not sure which model. It's not a bad spec for the price, but you're part paying by agreeing to have Amazon pitch regular advertising at you as part of your tablet experience. If you want rid of the advertising, you have to pay extra. It's a small amount, but should still be considered part of the price if you don't want the ads.

I don't use any of the tablets that I have. I get by with a phone and a laptop, and tend to see tablets as the worst of both worlds. I can only forgive a device not having a proper keyboard if it fits in my pocket. So my advice would be to upgrade the laptop to something with more memory and a faster processor. Look at refurbished models and second-hand with warranty if your budget doesn't stretch to anything decent, new.

Thanks! Interestingly, my daughter suggested I upgrade the old laptop and get a new phone with a bigger screen.
