What accommodations do you use? B&B, 5 star hotels, camping, couch surfing, VRBO...? I like cabin rentals and hotel/motels.

I love vacation rentals (VRBO/HomeAway type rentals). I have stayed in several in different states and only had one bad experience - I usually try to find a property manager I like and book directly through their website. Something I've learned over the years: when it comes to vacation rentals, definitely make sure to read the reviews before you book. If you're looking on a site like VRBO, the owner/manager has no ability to alter or filter reviews, they can only respond to them, so you can usually get a pretty solid idea of how accurate the listing is before you book.
And if I want to feel like I'm camping but not have to deal with a tent, KOA has some nice little cabins for rent as well, I've used them a few times.

Beware of VRBO, at least in the Phoenix area. My ex and I used them for six years and never once were the accommodations as described. We couldn’t figure out any way to find something in advance that was realistic. I am now tired of that area.

It is situational. I’ve shared bed, couch surfed, air b&b, 5 star, 2 star, camp site, and even no accommodations.
