I saw comments that this couldn't be right. What do you think?

Where did you get this diagram from? How many spiral arms does this diagram show? A static diagram is, under the circumstances, a little misleading because it can't show the movement of the spiral arms themselves.

Do they make a good Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster at the Galactic Long Bar?

Looks about right to me the last time I flew past your galaxy. Seriously, radio telescopes have probed these arms much better than optical scopes because of the dust in the galaxy and have produced these maps.

Seems about right.

I do not see anything wrong. What do you see, perhaps if I knew what I was looking for I could help.

Comments I saw were that our trip around the galaxy would involve changing constelllations and such.

@Hathacat Yes, the constellations would change because the outer arms do not rotate as fast as the inner arms. We're talking a very long term situation here tho. There are changes in the star maps that the Greeks made 3,000 years ago compared to modern maps but it takes that long to see even a little change because of the immense distances involved.

There was a recent article, either in Astronomy or Sky & Telescope, that covered some of this and it does indeed seem to my (sometimes faulty!) memory that this looks pretty accurate.
