@Insectra thanks for that delightful little chirrup. The old girl lying on my chest purred away and did not start to become curious even though the sound was making her ears prick, until 3/4 through - even then she preferred the cuddle. Five years ago even the tail would have been twitching lol she never caught one and chasing butterflies was even more nonsensical.?
he looks a bit - just a tad bigger - & by your description sounds like the australian wagtail

Look at the size difference. Reminds ds me of our Jack Russell 50 years ago - it would take on Alsatian's, Great Danes etc. that had heads that were bigger than her whole body!

Do you have magpies (specifically, Pica pica) over there? My first thought on seeing these photos was how much it looks like one; having never heard of the Eastern towhee I looked it up and was surprised to find it's a sparrow rather than a corvid - and its behaviour sounds very similar to a magpie too, so this seems an interesting example of convergent evolution.
