Can't make a 'first day' hike tomorrow because I have to work so I decided to do a short 'last day' hike. Goshen Creek Trail Blue Ridge Parkway just south of Boone NC

When we topped out on routes in the Linville Gorge, there was no trail and just a thick forest of rhododendron to fight through. We used to call it Rhodo Hell. At least though, no thorns.

That's a lot of green for this time of year.

rhododendron - I think they stay green. With that said we have a lot of trees budding up because of all this warm weather.

Great way to bring the year to an end!

It was so much fun but freaking cold!

@Heidi68
I’ll take your word on that (even though it looks pretty green🙂
It got so warm here, the ice thought about melting 😉

@Haemish1 that is almost scary - ice is not suppose to be melting in Dec/Jan up there...

@Heidi68
It’s not too uncommon to have a January thaw, or daytime temperatures of 33 or 34 degrees.
It’s 30 right now, but single digit low temps are back in the forecast this week🙂

@Haemish1 brrrrrr
We have mid 30s in the forecast

Posted by CallMeDaveI've never been a big wildflower person, but this is the season for it here in Appalachia. Other people can identify every variety. I'm not there yet.
