Powerlessness becomes all-encompassing only if you think so. I may be powerless over alcohol and drugs, but I gained much power by not using those substances. I can't speak to the other programs because I have no personal experience with them. I've been a sober member of AA for 38 years (01/06/1981). AA's effectiveness (for me) is the fellowship.
