Daily Check in!

I thought it might be productive to have a thread where everyone just piles in and checks in everyday if they have time. Just touch base say "hi" add a bit of wisdom. Tell us how you are doing, what you have planned for the day. Anything!

Would be nice to have a check in group. It is good to have a place where people can give and receive feedback, encouragement, support. I also like the idea of offering bits of wisdom. I enjoy reading quotes that offer a bit of wisdom.

@iamjc Good to hear. Hanging in there myself, could be better, but could also be a lot worse I suppose.

Awesome! I love podcasts to help me sleep at night so thanks for the tip.

I really liked the social aspect of 12 step meetings but just could NOT get over the whole GOD or HIGHER POWER thing. I have tried SMART RECOVERY and REALLY like it. They have online groups also but the site is SO HARD for this "old dog" to maneuver.

In my city, Minneapolis, there are groups and resources for recovering people who don't believe in a deity, are atheist, agnostic - I kind of think most good sized cities will have groups for non-believers. I hope secular people in recovery can find something that suits them.

Just about every Sunday I go to the “God as I understand him” 9am AA meeting which can be tedious or very entertaining depending on whose leading the meeting. I’ve actually been asked to lead and have led the meeting as “the resident” atheist (I love that moniker - it has vaguely sinister ring to it). I have many good friends there.

I go to the Manor in Slinger WI every saturday for their AA speaker meetings. I went to rehab there and I like to stay connected to the place even if I don't really go to AA outside of that place. It helps to keep me centered.

Hey man good for you that you are dealing with your addiction, but how do you square the whole religious overtone that AA has, ie reciting the Lords prayer etc. I have never trusted the 12 step thing because of this.

Pictomaniac, I have never been comfortable with the religious overtones of AA. I have always left the meetings before they recited the Lord's Prayer. I wish there was a better alternative to the twelve steps.
