FBI chasing 2,000 domestic terror cases; antifa aren't among Capitol suspects, Wray says

@LiterateHiker Wray has excellent CONSERVATIVE (Racist) credentials. -Wray signed off on the Trump's demands for an in-house investigation of Mueller's Russia probe attorneys. -Wray signed off on the retention of the memos that supposedly justified not prosecuting Trump. -Wray did nothing after the Lafayette Park police riot wherein Barr illegally marshalled militias from the DEA, ICE, Border Patrol and the Park Service to enact a police riot trampling people and freedoms of speech and assembly. -Wray did nothing while overseeing the illicit spying and subpoenas of records of Congressmen and reporters for Trump's political campaign of intimidation. This was under both Sessions and Barr. from Wikipedia: On June 7, 2017, President Donald Trump announced his intention to nominate Wray to be the next Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, replacing James Comey, who was dismissed by Trump on May 9, 2017 On June 4, 2020, Wray stated that "anarchists" like Antifa are "exploiting" George Floyd protests "to pursue violent, extremist agendas". Wray later clarified that Antifa is an ideology rather than any specific organization, clashing with Trump. Wray is a Republican and a member of the Federalist Society. It is the Federalist Society that provided lists of ultra-conservative candidates for judgeships to Trump and McConnell. Here is Wray speaking at the Heritage Foundation, which has worked for the last 4 months to provide Republican legislatures with proposed voter suppression laws, tailored to the individual states. https://www.facebook.com/heritagefoundation/videos/10155770422284481 Wray was installed by Trump and kept on throughout Trump's tenure. You think he isn't dirty as shit?

@powder It is fairly certain that Covid came from the local wet market, as did the previous SARS. We could stop these outbreaks by controlling what animals are brought to wet markets and by providing for the poorest regions that poach these animals from the wild. But how about Zika and the H1N1, H1N5. Science will be our best bet after the fact. Education is modestly effective in suppressing anti-vax attitudes and anti-mask attitudes. Frankly, those people need drugs/therapy.

@AnneWimsey As gay men were the primary demographic to die from AIDS, and the Reagan administration completely disregarded it, the remaining gay community suggested that the virus had been created specifically to wipe them out. The rest of society also acted with indifference, and at one point, demonstrations were held demanding research be undertaken to stop the epidemic. It's true that a significant portion of gay men are Conservative, so some Conservative gay men may also have suggested that AIDS was artificial. The fact that AIDS decimated Black gays and heterosexuals in Africa was noted to counter the claim that the disease specifically targeted gays. Who do you believe was promoting AIDS as artificial? China had previously closed down its wet market because of the risk of serious SARS outbreak, but still reopened it. For China to be so uncooperative in checking out the lab increases the suspicion, even if the science says no. Even if we find out the lab workers got infected, we can't know if it was from the lab or the nearby wet market. Or, they might have fallen ill from the flu. It may well be too late to prove it was a lab accident, what then?

@AnneWimsey @St-Sinner In the reference below, carefully examine Fig. 1. The polybasic cleavage site (RRAR) at the junction of S1 and S2, the two subunits of the spike, shows a newly added RNA coded sequence. Researchers have not fount this sequence in other animals. Those promoting the lab-release scenario imply that Dr. Shi Zheng-li managed to get this sequence inserted by passing the virus through successive cultures (rather than by genetic manipulation). To obtain this result seems extremely improbable. Maybe 4^12 to start, four for the possible nucleotides and 12 for the length of the sequence, and that's not counting getting that sequence in the right place in a sequence hundreds of nucleotides long. Obtaining a gain of function by serial passage without mangling all the rest of the sequence (compared to the other animal sequences) is, again, extremely improbable. The article makes other arguments as well. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-020-0820-9

St. Peter explained "We already have 100 popes, but he's the first lawyer!!." Please notice that none of the people attacked by the flesh eating bacteria were lawyers.

Or this: "The brutal treatment of women for no other reason except the fact they are women is disgraceful at best! ( Islamic countries?) While Israel's treatment of Palestinians is brutal, so are bomb attacks and rocket attacks on civilians. The Palestinians have a major level or responsibility for their plight, and disregarding that is certainly problematic. Attacking civilians is also a war crime, even if unsuccessful. I understand that the US population has been inundated with propaganda from both sides. However, peace proposals have been consistently rejected along with pledges of perpetual Jihad. Hamas is labeled a terrorist organization for good reason (targeting civilians). Supporting Hamas with continual reinstatement does not speak well for the Gazans. War is war, but the behavior of the Israelis and Palestinians yields a much less sympathetic comparison.

I believe that Carter's use of the word Apartheid in the book title no-less signifies a level of intemperance and anger that can only be understood in the context of anti-Semitism. @AnneWimsey Carter did mediate a peace deal between the Israelis and the Egyptians, and thereafter made a career out of acting as a diplomat, even discussing various subtleties of diplomatic practice. Among those practices is refraining from ad hominem denunciation. And yet, out of the blue with no explanation (that could be published), he endorsed the notion of calling Israel out as practicing apartheid (Peace, Not Apartheid, 2006). (The text called for Israel to return to the Pre-1967 boundaries, which, by that point in time, was simply ridiculous. By that time, Israel had decades of taking land as a punishment for pursuing Jihad and committing atrocities against civilians). Such grossly hypocritical behavior could only come from someone who held profoundly anti-Semitic views. Carter's father was a staunch segregationist and Carter himself was a devout Southern Baptist. He often claimed to style himself as a preacher. Southern Baptists beliefs include anti-Semitism as an integral part of their culture. Carter's upbringing and later behavior in terms of loyalty to Christianity, and his willingness to denounce Israel with an absurd slur denotes anti-Semitic bigotry.

The behavior of the police is no better than the shooters who you rightly describe: "They can rot in solitary for the rest of their miserable lives. They are a waste of oxygen." Thus, non-whites that see a situation developing call the police at their own peril, and they know that. They have seen that those that called the police ended up being murdered by the police they called.

The tragedy is that by not addressing this corruption, business as usual is inefficient as usual. Allowing inefficiency retards growth and decreases both prosperity and competitiveness. @BDair @AnneWimsey The article is the letter that Wade references and dismisses as political propaganda. Talk about projection. Figure 1 shows that the closest sequence matching the glycan and RBD comes from the Pangolin, and that is still missing the Polybasic cleavage site. The odds of Dr. Shi getting that sequence inserted via serial passage are extremely high against. Similarly, as Anderson notes, SARS2 does not resemble the backbones used by Dr. Shi. That may be inferential, but it's pretty definitive. If research staff got Covid in August, you have to account for the absence of cases from August to December. The big problem is that Wade's thesis is conspiracy-minded, starting with the conclusion and then trying to prop it up, often-times with misleading language and quickly dismissing alternatives. I believe no one challenged Anderson's letter for good reason. More data from the lab might be instructive, but it is surely too late now.
