Having studied the tragic, genocidal, genetic/epigenetic slow-motion passenger train wreck of human brain evolution and function for 40 years, I am as serious as a heart attack when I tell you that if I had the power to, I would shove all human beings into Mr. Peabody's Wayback Machine and set the dial to the time of this wonderful, if slightly fanciful, "Atapuerca Family Portrait." It is based on the incredible find of dozens of skeletons of all age groups at Atapuerca. Most images of early humans show dumb brutes, and by this stage of our evolution, we were most certainly not; neither did we have the capacity to imagine and build atomic weapons.
...Nor were we at the top of the food chain, and I will argue with anyone alive that we were more successful in evolutionary terms when we were not at the top of the food chain! Homo erectus was by far the most successful human species to date, having existed for 1.8 million years, and he most certainly was not at the top from the god-damned food chain! With our overlarge brains, with way too much intelligence and not nearly enough wisdom, we are the sole authors of today's Sixth Great Extinction Event and are rapidly ELIMINATING the food chain.

Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.As humans I think we hit our peak a while back. Not sure when, maybe 50,000-100,000 years ago. We lived not in 'families' but in 'tribes.' We were not 'cave men' but 'hunter gatherers.' We were also prey back then, we looked after others in our tribe. Once we became the top predator we started sliding downhill. Just my opinion.

Ive been saying that for years. That the last brain enlargement seems to have gone to the logico-matematical part of the brain. Leaving the instinctual and wisdom-related behind. Sure we can do, but should we. When does can do make humans less fit for their world?
