I had to read most of the article to even get a clue about how Lapis was hidden below her gum-line....it's weird...

"The woman was (probably) a painter who could have ingested ultramarine paint while licking her brush to a point, or she breathed in the powder while preparing pigment for herself or someone else. You can almost begin to picture her, Beach says, sitting by herself laboring over a manuscript day after day. “For a medieval historian,” she adds, “this kind of clear material evidence of something from the life of an individual person is so extraordinary.”

Very interesting - and more evidence that women were the severely oppressed ‘silent majority” of artists and writers for most of history.
