Well this is just scary. 18 year old with developmental delays throws 8 year old over waterslide because line is too long.

We have a friend with a child on the spectrum. He hits her often and sometimes has very violent meltdowns. She gets bruised.

My son, who also has meltdowns, doesn't get violent towards people. He does hit his brother sometimes but it's usually seems more attention seeking.
Which just goes to show, if you know one kid with autism, you know one kid with autism.

I think that destructive behaviors can usually be corrected over time, but it ultimately depends upon the child (and the parent - and their situation). Alternatives must be taught and that could be a nearly impossible job for some depending on the child and the situation. We were lucky enough to get our son started in therapy at 2.5 yrs. But I had to get the coverage added at work - if it hadn't worked out there's no way we could have afforded it.

Right. You can't lump all kids in one category and you can't always blame their upbringing.

Posted by altschmerzI was diagnosed with autism by a psychologist after a day of testing, but my current therapist keeps saying she doesn't think I have it (or I'm a "little bit" autistic).
