Today I got my evaluation to see if I'm ASD. I've suspected since 2010 but a majority I spoke to about it either dismissed me or flat out said I was wrong. To even implying I was crazy. Psychology and human behavior are my largest areas of interest, besides art. I understood hard psychological concepts at a very young age with minimum education. But because I grew up in a highly toxic and abusive home I was told I was crazy my whole life. Then this was further "validated" by romances and friends I once surrounded myself with to continue the cycle. 3.5 years ago I began breaking from my abuse. There were still pieces to the puzzle that didn't add up to my past behavior beyond the abuse though...
I'm sobbing this validation feels so amazing. The doctor told me she's baffled how no one else had even considered I'm on the spectrum before, because she sees it so clearly. But she was in awe of me that I figured it out on my own and came in with knowledge of all the specifics of my self awareness and education on it. I'm hoping to find a way to go back to school and get my psychology degree and work specifically with kids that have ASD and have experienced trauma.
If only I had known so much of this when I was younger... I'm 39 and will be 40 this September and I feel like my life has really just begun today.
