To help me better understand Autism Spectrum Disorder, especially from a behavioral perspective, please let me know (1) what types of target behaviors you have seen or experienced as a result of Autism, (2) what are the functions or causes of why you believe the behaviors occur, and (3) what treatments, if any, you have sought or experienced to help with those target behaviors.

Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.To name a few; sensory problems (as in overload, over or under responses), difficulty reading facial expressions and social cues such as body language or innuendos and difficulty determining intent, difficulty with or mixed up responses to emotions - whether theirs or someone else's, extreme need for routine and predictability, stimming, sometimes self injury (especially when overwhelmed or frustrated), prosopagnosia (inability to recognize faces), slower auditory processing times... The list goes on, but these spring to mind easily. Social skill classes can help a little, but are not always successful in a general setting (Kids might use what they've learned within the group they are learning with, but not use those skill in other settings). OT can sometimes help with sensory issues. And we are always looking for new solutions and help for these. Haven't found any "miracle cures". It's just the brain type. It's like trying to turn a person into a different person. This is just who one is. And that's ok.

Thanks so much. I had no idea that people with autism were more likely to have an inability to recognize faces.
Would you be able to clarify your question? Are you working with children, adults? Autsim is a spectrum and looks different for everyone.
