Hi, agnostics and such in Napa and points north—Y’ville, St. Helena & Calistoga. I’m a lifelong learner in the Veterans Home (there have been atheists in wars and a few are here). I happily tell all who don’t run away I’m an atheist, and phone-chat with a Napan who posts on another atheist web group. RSVP?

Hi there,
Good to meet you. I'm a Navy veteran and have visited your area a few times. How long have you been there? My exwife lived there for awhile prior to her passing. What is your military background?

Hi, I was in the Navy reserve in St. Pete, Florida, and during the Korean War a destroyer electrician. In 1952 the Navy sent me to Treasure Island and made me a civilian. I did a few hours of liberty in SF and resolved to return. After college in Florida I married and in computer mfg started working my way back to SF. My wife and i split in Phoenix and in 1974 I ran in a legislative primary. I didn’t win and in 1976 retired to SF thinking of going to law school. I didn’t do that but studied parliamentary law. In 1996 I moved to the Vets Home and became active with its Allied Council, much like a town council. And you?

@yvilletom Hi Tom...I was born in Richmond, CA, and grew up in the San Joaquin Valley town of Tracy. My folks were all from Eastern Oregon so I spent my summers on a cattle ranch up there. Joined the Navy at 17, got out just prior to 21. I went to RADAR school on Treasure Island in 1961 and Boot camp at San Diego. Went to Vietnam in 1962 so missed the heavy combat, then spent time on a RADAR Picket ship home ported in Treasure Island until my enlistment was up. After that I went to school on the GI Bill majoring in Computer Science/Math. Worked at Lawrence Livermore Lab for the University of California for 25 years then retired and headed to Oregon. After that moved to Colorado then Idaho until returning to California in 2014 where the kids and Grandkids are. Enjoyed Physics at the Lab and at school. Worked with the Nuclear program for a few years then moved to the peacetime use of such things after while. I now live on a few acres in the hills where we raise chickens and work to keep the fires away from our area. That's the highlights here. I often thought it would be good to go back to school and get a law degree but never did. Closest I got was graduate work in Management Sciences.

@gwillett Richmond, wasn't that a shipyard city? I've heard of Tracy. Isn't that where a lot of Delta water starts going south? In 1950 I went aboard DD 748 Harry E. Hubbard when it was being taken from mothballs in San Diego. HEH mainly escorted the 7th Fleet and shelled railroad tracks on North Korea's east coast. In the 1990s I learned from a VN War HEH crewman that it was in Tonkin Gulf. He said the incident didn't happen the way the story was reported. HEH has a shipmates organization whose VN War vets said they recently won brown water navy compensation.
