This is hilarious - I'm back from a hiatus, and there's almost 200 members in this group I created way back when... who knew there were so many Canucks here... So @SukiSue, in the spirit of Canadian politeness, inclusivity, bacon, and strong beer, if you're Canadian in your heart, you're more than welcome. I can see you've already survived a bit of a hazing from other members, so good on you.

AND - there's cheap land here! [cbc.ca]

And I'm gathering up all of my answers too! Thanks! ?@arouet will be proud of me! It might take me a bit of time, I'm also putting in wood floors in the upstairs of my home. So....

@SukiSue What kind of wood?

@Arouet laminate. I know... It's a cop out. I have a great story about another floor, from the past!

When wooden cheese board shelves became illegal in England, they were selling the wood for $0.06 a foot! I flew over, bought enough to do the floors in my home and had it sent back. I used these wide pine planks on every floor. I nailed them down with counter sunk screws and pegs. The stain from the round cheese vats remained by contrasting with the discolored wood around the circles. There was an awesome circular pattern throughout my home that brought comfort. The finish was created with pure bleach. I rubed the bleach deep into the wood to eliminate any bacteria. Another awesome pattern developed.

@SukiSue The correct answer is: MAPLE, get it? (-:

Great story about the cheese boards. It takes pizzazz to go all the way to UK to buy boards and ship them back, then refinish and use for flooring. Brava! I usually don't have enough ambition to water the plants or wash the dishes. Are you going to bring them with you to Canada?

@Arouet I wish I could!

Damn you stole my line!

Hahaha! Get ready for the test! I hope you do better than I did. ?

2

I'll vouch for her, she isn't able to carry a Canadian Passport but she sure meets the requirements for a Canadian mindset. 👍 I'm tempted to sponsor her if she applies for Landed Immigrant Status.

I wouldn't hesitate.

@SukiSue Be careful what you wish for, I've only been back from Mexico for one day and already it is snowing again. lol

Here are some more serious questions. You'll be asked these at the border, even as an illegal immigrant or ISIS member:
Who won the war of 1812?
The last letter of the alphabet rhymes with a) Pee (as in urine) or b) Lead (as in a soft grey metal)?
Dans quelle année est-ce que la ville de Québec a été fondée et par qui?
In what country was the telephone invented, by whom and what was his birth country?
"Cajun" (Louisiana) is a corruption of what word? How does it relate to Canada?
Which province permits open carry of handguns? What is the minimum barrel length?
What is Canada's official national sport? Most exciting sport?

That will do for now. I'll be back after a few more beers.

Arouet Level 7 Dec 3, 2018

The national sport is a tricky one i.e. not the obvious sport.

Ha! Okay I'll admit it I'm getting my ass kicked in here! But I'm not licked! I'm going to do some research and come back! By then I will have reserved my membership in this group and you will all be proud of me! ?

@SukiSue So,..... when are you going to come back with your answers? We are all dying to see how you do. Note that humorous or absurd answers get just as many points as correct ones. This is Canada after all.

@Arouet ... Working diligently.

I am ready!
"The War of 1812 (which lasted from 1812 to 1814) was a military conflict between the United States and Great Britain. As a colony of Great Britain, Canada was swept up in the War of 1812 and was invaded a number of times by the Americans." The British actually won the battle! We Americans, of course will always say that the Americans won.

Pronouncing "Z" like "led" is also a British thing. Only Americans favor "Zee."

La ville de Québec a été fondée par l'Explorateur Français et navigateur Samuel de Champlain en 1608, commençant une chaîne de colonies de Français le long du fleuve Saint-Laurent, créant une région nommée "le Canada ".

"In 1906 the citizens of the City of Brantford, Ontario, Canada and its surrounding area formed the Bell Memorial Association to commemorate the invention of the telephone by Alexander Graham Bell in July 1874 at his parent's home, Melville House, near Brantford." ...But he was actually born in Scotland.

"Cajun" is the corruption of the word "Acadia." I am still trying to figure out how this relates to Canada. I understand it has to do with Acadians colonizing Louisiana somehow... A good book for me to to read might be: "The Louisiana Cajuns: The Quest for Identity through Education"
Joe L. Green

I didn't think any Provinces permitted open carry. Is this a trick question? 😉

Canadians love to golf! It is immensely popular. I would think that ice hockey in the winter and Lacrosse in the summer are probably the "official" national sports? But what do I know? I am not a sports fan! lol Most exciting sport... hmmmm... curling?

@SukiSue I am profoundly impressed by your scholarship! We'll make a Canadian of you yet! Wow, t'as même répondu en français! All correct and then some. Many Canadians don't know this stuff. Here are some comments:
Cajun: By 1755, Britain had taken the fortress of Louisbourg and occupied "Acadia", roughly present day Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. This area had been settled by French farmers and fishermen since early in the 17th century. While willing to "...render unto Caesar..", they drew the line at taking an oath to the British Crown, so in that year, the Brits rounded up all they could catch, loaded them onto ships and transported them out of the country. This is the "Expulsion of the Acadians", one of the many examples of British genocide. Most of these folks were dumped in Louisiana where it was hoped that the 'gators, lousy climate and yellow fever would finish them off. It didn't. They became the Cajuns and they are still there. The modern pronunciation of "Acadien" in Canada sounds roughly like "Acajane", whence "Cajun". The poem "Evangeline" written by the American poet Longfellow, is based on this event.
Yes! Trick question! Open carry and concealed carry are forbidden everywhere in Canada except by RCMP and Provincial police as well as certain bank employees, armoured truck personnel. Highway patrol officers and private security guards do not and may not carry firearms.
Lacrosse is Canada's official national sport. Canada's most exciting sport is Women's Curling. In the event there are any doubters, I am prepared to defend this opinion in a separate message.

Well done SukiSue, welcome to Canada.

@Arouet Yay! But the poor Arcadians. ... How horrible.

@Arouet ... And women's curling? Outstanding!!! ?

@SukiSue Men's curling, like most men's sports, all about bellowing, pawing the earth and clashing antlers. Full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. It is, however, a game of inches. Women's curling, on the other hand, is a game of millimetres, without the testosterone. It's like watching someone threading a needle while riding a horse. Athletic precision. A bonus is that Canadian women curlers are among the most gorgeous bipeds that have ever walked the earth, right up there with Russian tennis and Brazilian beach volleyball.

2

Hey little girl, would you like some maple sugar candy, get into my igloo 😉

Lol... How unCanadian of you!

It is traditional for Northern Countries to be openly welcoming, so welcome!

Being Canadian is a state of mind . . . and adding U's to words.

See if you can pass this test by correcting the following statement. "Canada favors universal healthcare , self effacing humor and easting maple syrup on Arbor day."

"Canada favors Universal Healthcare, which took more than 50 years to implement. Self depricating humour is very common in Canadian comedy. On Arbor Day, or in Ontario, Arbor "Week", trees are planted and the Earth is celebrated! Canadians love to taste maple syrup and are serious producers, particularly in the east.

Did I get anything wrong, eh? ?

@SukiSue Yes. Do you want to get me started about this?

@TheGreatShadow please...

@SukiSue What do you want to know?

@TheGreatShadow is there anywhere in Canada that's warm enough to have a seasonal vegetable garden?

@SukiSue Seasonal, yes. Year round... You'd probably need a green room.

@SukiSue You missed favour(s), arbour, and deprecating. Hint: Canadian English tends to use international spelling rather than US. Words taken directly from French, tend to retain the French spelling, hence centre (not center, ugh), favour (not favor), colour, cheque.

@SukiSue Arbour vs Arbor but that's close enough!

Let me know when you are moving and I'll put in a good word OK

@bookofmoron bummer! It looks like I'll have to do my research!

@Arouet ... Smartie pants! ?

@SukiSue That's me! You must of heard of me! Always there to help you with the transition to your new, and trump free life. Here are more questions for you, related to Wx:
What is black ice?
What is a block heater?
Why should one never eat yellow snow?

@Arouet lol... You are great! ?

@SukiSue Oh my goodness! This is so sudden! We've only just met! What will our parents say?

@Arouet ?

@SukiSue The missing U is a dead give away if you want to stay "under the radar" lol

@bookofmoron lol.. I have to get this stuff down! ?

@SukiSue If you ever want to know ANYTHING about Canada just ask an American who has spent a little time here, like Great Shadow, they know ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING about Canada. Even if most of it is wrong. 😉

@Surfpirate lol...

2

No. lol I'm a member, but I am an American. Just make sure you say "eh" at the end of every sentence. 😛

Will it help them keep me, eh?

@SukiSue But you have to call them hosers as well. 😛

@TheGreatShadow you're trying to get me kicked out!

@SukiSue No. lol
