There really should be an Indigenous month as well.
Today marks the beginning of Black History Month where we honour and celebrate the many achievements and contributions Black Canadians have made to our country - from activism, to art, to public service and everything in between. I love that this year we have a great Black Canadian woman on our $10 bill! In 1946, Viola Desmond’s stand at a segregated Nova Scotia movie theatre, made her a civil-rights icon.

Happy Black History Month! I love the new ten! After some travel I think we have the prettiest currency, lol. Very proud of our local black heritage in Vancouver: [vancouverheritagefoundation.org].
It’s a nice thought about an Indigenous history month; Indigenous folks are so central to our cultural identity and history, though, that I don’t think a mere month would cut it. Many reject the reconciliation narrative, especially in view of pipeline plans which plough through unceded territories. I guess if there were to be a designated month, Indigenous folks would have to declare it themselves, rather than have it beneficently bestowed upon them while RCMP remove healing lodges to make way for fossil fuel development.

We have Indigenous Day everyday on the CBC Radio but why not just accept Indigenous People every day?
