I have always identified as an introvert, but I don't think I really am. MBTI for what it's worth always says I'm INTJ also, but I'm so outside the norm for this group and people I meet and actually like tend to think I'm an extrovert.
Do you guys have any good definitions of introvert or "personality tests" other than Myers-Briggs? Yes I have googled it and looked into a few definitions, but I am looking for what you guys identify with.
Someone on this site referenced Quiet Revolution as a resource for what you're asking: [quietrev.com] I don't know of anything else other than a lot of pop culture tests that are just click bait for ads.
For me it’s all about energy. Being around people is physical and mentality draining. Where as an extrovert gets energy from being around people.
While I prefer to be alone I do enjoy the company of certain people. I enjoy talking but not to people. While I do crave company social anxiety along with the thought of how drained I feel after makes me not want to. But this is just me personally.
Also it’s possible to be outgoing and be an introvert or shy and an extrovert.
I agree completely. When I go to lunch with a group of women I've known for 40 years, I can't wait til I can go back home. It is exhausting... everyone talking at once over loud music . I just can't process that much simultaneous media. I wish I could enjoy social interaction more, but I'm just not wired that way. I can only handle interacting with one person at a time.
Thinking a lot too. I really like people, and enjoy their company. More often though, the thought of staying in, where there is certainty, is better than the thought of heading out. I have fantasies of making new friends, or of wowing people with my wit and charm. Pretty much always a night out ends with some stress, anxiety and sadness. Is that being an introvert? Knowing and being happy that staying alone is the best choice? But maybe wanting something else?
I have taken personality tests from the organization Individual Differences Lab. In addition to myers briggs, this organization also has its basis Carl Gustav Jung. They are fairly accurate (INTJ for me).
Me too. No matter how many times I take it it's pretty consistent
