Dancing. I don't like to dance. I feel like an idiot. It's like getting out in the middle of a bunch of people and having a fit, or something. I just don't get dancing. Is it because I'm an introvert and, to me, dancing is like small talk? Anyone else feel this way?

Thank you all so much....I now have a clear picture about my deceased husband and his abhorrent feelings about dancing. Of course I am not much different..wine helps me dance! Haha

Booze helped when I was younger but now I won't even go in those places?

I think so. My husband was in sales. I thought I was married to an extrovert....could not get him on the dance floor. I never realized he was an introvert....he had me fooled. I am a classic introvert...and an empath. I even like it when someone calls to tell me plans are cancelled. I can’t believe I had a long career in Big Pharma and did so much international travel...I like myself though...life is good.

For me it's because I don't want any attention on me. I try to avoid any and all situations where multiple people will be looking at me period. The school dances I went with friends and guys, but never entered the dance floor and just stuck to the edges in the shadows...

This post made me laugh out loud.. very sweet.. but I for one love to dance.. it's all about feeling the music..

Maybe that's my problem? The music I appreciate, I could never dance to. Like Black Sabbath! How does one dance to Sabbath or Iron Maiden or Dio, ha ha!

@farmboy2017 I love the music...all music...I can dance after a glass of wine. Haha

I am horrible at dancing. The thought of getting on a crowded dance floor is not very appealing to me.

I'd rather do just about anything but dance!

@farmboy2017 why?

@IAmLove I think it's the music itself. You can't dance to my music. You could spaz to it but not dance. I don't spaz, either ?

I like to slow dance cause then its two idiots throwing a fit in unison. I know what you mean about that solo getting ones freak on. My solo dancing would be much like Elaine's on that Seinfeld episode. Very awkward for all concerned.

I liked dancing when I was younger, but now, I feel awkward and foolish, so I avoid it at all costs.

I too danced when I was younger. I now dislike it to the point where if there is dancing, I don't go.

Nope... I love dancing. I go country line dancing a few times a week. I like dancing because it gives me an opportunity to interact with people without having to talk. Everyone is doing the same steps, so there's a sort of quiet unity about it.

I enjoyed dancing when I was younger but haven’t done it for years, then one night when I went out, the man I was with put on some music and began showing me some new Latin dance steps I had never done before. We were alone so it wasn’t like anyone was watching. It was so much fun

HeraTera Level 7 May 22, 2018

I could do that! With a woman, I mean.

I hate dancing almost more than anything. I am not graceful in my body movements and never have been. I don't even like being around music because I keep thinking I'll look like a jerk if I can't move with it if others are getting into the music. Hate it ?

I feel your pain! I love music but I don't physically express that very well.

Moving one's body to rhythmic sound (e.g. music) is something humans have been doing for possibly hundreds of thousands of years or more. We can still see evidence of coordinated group dances in almost every aboriginal tribe still in existence. Therefore, it must be natural behavior. It appears to have social utility and significance, so some of us who are introverted may find it ridiculous because we don't value or understand many social facets.

I'm one of those introverts who revels in dance, although I've never been interested in learning how to do coordinated or choreographed movements. I just can't help but move to music.

You don't have to feel foolish. It's clear from the many youtube videos I've seen in the last few years that people admire dancing even when the performers have no idea what they're doing, as long as the performers can convey their passion.

That's what I'll do from now on; call my dancing a performance. I used to be a distance runner and that kind of movement was awesome!! I wish I could still do it.

@farmboy2017 It's hard not to be self-conscious about things you don't feel you do well. But with dancing, it's okay to say "screw it" and do whatever you wish. People don't seem to mind on the whole. In fact, bravery is often rewarded regardless of skill level.
