I'm curious, how many Mensa members qualified and paid dues for a while, before wising up and stopped their dues-paying? I live in a very rural area [8,000 in my entire county] and I only knew one other member from the adjoining county, so I only got the mags and only attended one meeting because I happened to be in the area when they held an annual meeting in St. Louis. I enjoyed the conflagration of eccentrics, and my favorite thing was a costume contest where people were portraying visual puns . The winner was a dangling participle, which I'll leave to your imagination.
I joined and paid dues for a couple of years, or maybe just one. I went to one event and one meeting, I think. That was a long time ago. I quit because of some controversy with the leadership. That was around 1988?
I did for a time . The meetings , at night , were a rather long drive for me , in heavy traffic , in an area I wasn't very familiar with . Compared to the other things in my life at the time , I felt they were less interesting . However , if you're searching for someone in your life , and aren't interested in hanging out in bars , for instance , it's a good place to be to meet other high IQ folks .
Yep. Been there, done that.
No comment necessary, except welcome to my club, pal.
